The Steering Committee for the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE)
project has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction work at the
Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) in Lilongwe.
During a visit to the site on Tuesday, 29 July, 2025 , the Committee’s Co-Chairperson and Secretary for Labour, Chikondano Musa, said the project is moving in the right direction and Commended the contractor for working hard and showing strong commitment.
“We are happy with the work being done here. The contractor is serious and working fast. If this continues, we believe the project will be finished on time,” said Musa.
KUHeS Deputy Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Belinda Gomachika, also shared her satisfaction with the progress.
She said the smooth flow of work is a result of good teamwork between the university and the construction company.
“Our staff and the contractor are working together very well. That cooperation is making the work go smoothly without delays,” said Gombachika
Once completed, the new facility will provide modern, well-equipped spaces for learning, teaching, and research. This investment will strengthen KUHeS's capacity to train highly skilled health professionals who will drive Malawi’s socio-economic development.
The SAVE Project is a five-year, US$100 million initiative funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour.
The project supports 31 public institutions—including 9 universities, 7 national technical colleges, and 15 community technical colleges—and aims to expand equitable access to market-relevant skills, particularly for females and vulnerable youth across Malawi.
